Dr. Sebastian Althoff
Sebastian Althoff ist wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut für Medienwissenschaften, Universität Paderborn. Prägende biographische Eckpunkte: Studium in Bayreuth, Frankfurt und der EHESS in Paris mit Fokus auf politische Philosophie und ästhetische Theorie; Mitarbeit an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste München und der Forschungsgruppe Medien und Mimesis; schließlich 2021 Promotion in Medienwissenschaften an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Er ist Autor von Digitale Desökonomie: Unproduktivität, Trägheit und Exzess im digitalen Milieu. Seine derzeitigen Forschungsprojekte kreisen um die Verurteilung des Hasses, die Delegitimation sozialer Medien und den Begriff des Überlebens.

The conference explored aesthetic, symbolic and political intersections of populism and culture.
The conference "Politics, Populism, Culture: The Politics of Populist Culture", organised by the International Populism Research Network, took place from 20-22 September in Kiel. Speakers from different countries explored the aesthetic, symbolic, social and political intersections of populism and culture. Approaching populism from this perspective shed light on the characteristics of populist political culture, the role of popular culture in creating discourses around national identities, gender, class and race, and the use of culture in different forms of populism. Sebastian Althoff from the University of Paderborn reports on the three days of the conference.
