Die Reform der Rentensysteme befindet sich seit dem Jahr 2000 auf der EU-Agenda. Daher hat die im Oktober 1998 gegründete Nachwuchsgruppe zum sozialen Schutz und dem internationalen Recht des Max-Planck-Instituts für ausländisches und internationales Sozialrecht ein Expertenseminar durchgeführt, das in Antwerpen im März 2001 stattfand.
